Friday- Happy Thoughts: My mom found me this beautiful antique tea set at a market several weeks ago. I can’t wait to see it in person! It’s so dainty.

I will never forget the darling toile bag my mom purchased me when I was very young. It was a black and white print with a large hot pink H embroidered on the side. It was girly, fun, and youthful. I have been wanting to add a toile print to my new townhouse, but haven’t been exactly sure how to incorporate it. I am finding my style today to lean a little more clean and modern. Most traditional toiles beg for additional French Provence support (and lots of it at that).

I was so excited to stumble upon the new Toiles Collection from Manuel Canovas Paris. What a refreshing collection of prints! These are far more English chic, than housewife Country French. They make me want to sip Earl Grey tea AND have chickens running around my backyard while chicly reading my Elle Decor.

I think this orange is just so striking. It would be beautiful in a powder room or to wallpaper an accent wall. It’s the perfect Hermès orange!

I adore the mix of soft colors and prints in this picture. All of the fabrics complement each other very well. And, again, everything feels modern and clean, not overwhelming. It is certainly not a predictable toile. It’s toile - with an edge! I even love the turquoise and taupe floral wallpaper.

Saving the best for almost last- this might be my favorite. I would love to use this as the accent wall behind my headboard in my bedroom and really pull the charcoal & gray throughout the rest of the room with pops of white. Isn’t this the most beautiful color? And, who wouldn’t want to decorate their bedroom in the very best of champagne hues: rosé.

Thank you Manuel Canovas for making toile fresh again.

I haven’t been into Halloween costumes in a long time. Maybe it’s because I’m nostalgic for the costumes I wore from the Disney catalog and Storybook Heirlooms as a child and can’t find anything that quite compares. Additionally, whenever I do something, I have to try it a different way than everyone else does, so buying a costume right off the rack just never sits right with me. However, I was inspired by this slideshow on style.com and especially, the disco queen attire above.

Halston Heritage- Asymetric Gold Gown
If I was willing to spend the money on my costume, I’d love to try this Halston Heritage lamé gown. It would be perfect to go for the look of a Disco Queen or even to pair with some fantastic bangles and a headdress for a 70’s spin on Cleopatra. Can’t you see it?

Bianca Jagger was the queen of 70’s assymetrical chic.

Donna Summer
However, I think I am absolutely loving the idea of the disco look. I would adore going as Donna Summer. I love her style and she always looked gorgeous!

Donna Summer
The flower in her hair is just like the fresh fleurs the models are wearing in the Marc Jacobs show. So glamorous!

Another great piece for a costume from Halston Heritage.

Donna Summer

Donna Summer- I bet she is singing “On the Radio” here or….
The good part is, I don’t think her hair would be a problem. Mine seems to get just as big (and not even on purpose) here in Texas!

Mick Jagger & Bianca Jagger
So great to feel inspired again. What are you going to be for Halloween?

Buy this from Heritage Halston for your Halloween weekend and get ready to…

Erdem - Spring 2011 from style.com
“I am crazy about Erdem. His ability to create the feminine spirit in his collection through modern technology of computer generated prints with a nod to the romantic are his signature. The couture quality of his collection underlines his brilliance as a young dress maker.”
- Ken Downing
Senior Vice President and Fashion Director, Neiman Marcus
Erdem Moralioglu has studied fashion in both Canada and England. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in London in 2003, he moved to New York where he worked for Diane von Furstenberg for one year.

Erdem - Fall 2010 from style.com
Shortly after, he moved back to England, where he aspired to fill the void of feminine fashion from London designers. Moralioglu launched ERDEM in 2005, winning the prestigious Fashion Fringe award that same year.

Erdem - fall 2010 from style.com
What I love most about the line, is the ability for Moralioglu to take bold and complex patterns and keep them elegant. With coloring and fabric, he softens the graphic designs and retains their elegance and femininity.

Erdem- fall 2010
And, the colors, well the colors are just spectacular! For both his Spring 2011 and Fall 2010 collection, the palettes are completely on mark. Erdem is both “now” and wearable.

Leonora-Silk Satin Print Blouse - Net-A-Porter
And, after looking through his collections again, the designs remind me of the works of an oil painter. They are made of many swirling components, colors, and intricacies - yet, in the end stand as one inspiring piece.

*doesn’t it look like the model is wearing a garden chair? brilliant!
And, it seems to just keep getting better. I am in love with his Spring 2011 line. It reminds me of an English Tea Party and of course, since the age of three, Alice in Wonderland has been my favorite movie. It also has a bit of a ‘60’s vibe that I am absolutely loving at the moment (and so is British VOGUE).

Yet, though the prints are ladylike, the unexpected shapes and the inclusion of fabrics like black lace, keep the styles from being overly precious. With details like this, Erdem keeps its cool.

I am love movie.
I was lucky enough to see a sneak preview of this film back in the spring with my friend Melissa. The beautiful style of the film has stuck with me ever since. After reading the new T Magazine today on Milan, I was instantly reminded of the feel of this lovely movie. The fashions were so impactful and Tilda Swinton was striking in nearly every scene.

Italy certainly has a feel that can’t be replicated. It’s a wise understanding of design and style that just feels regal and classical, yet completely in the know.

The pieces were predominantly from Jil Sander. I think it turned out to be just as important a part of the movie as the story.

I really need to purchase this film soon. I can’t wait to see it again!

* if anyone can find the picture of Tilda Swinton in the orange pants - please send it my way! I love that outfit!

Twiggy by photgrapher Barry Lategan, 1966. This is the picture that made her career.
Twiggy. You win. Ever since I started this blog two years ago, my mom has been begging me to write about Twiggy. Because she asked me to write about her and it was not on my own accord, I said no (over and over again).

VOGUE cover - 4/15/1967: Famous fashion model Twiggy was featured on the patriotic April 15, 1967, cover of Vogue magazine. Bert Stern photographed her wearing a red-and-white-striped jersey with matching polka-dot earrings.

But, because it is her birthday (my mom’s) and because I feel that Twiggy does deserve at least some fashion recognition, I’ve done what I do best and picked the ones I can find that I feel are top notch English supermodel Lesley Hornby.

Twiggy, March 1, 1967 VOGUE in a dress by Michèle Rosier photographed by Bert Stern

Truthfully, I think my mom likes her simply because of all of the mod clothing she wore. Mary Quant, sixties shifts, shorts, minis, jumpers, etc. I think I am most intrigued by her large eyes and gorgeous lashes. Long lashes make anyone lovelier.

Twiggy was one of the world’s very first supermodels, if not the first (sans Dovima, who was technically a supermodel before the term was coined). Her career was launched with a famous haircut by Leonard Lewis and photographs by Barry Lategan.

She was named “The Face of 1966” by the Daily Express and remains a defining trademark of “Swinging London.”

twiggy ad.

So, yes, I think there are some very lovely things about Twiggy and she certainly defined an era. Twiggy appeared in nearly every top fashion magazine and was photographed by Bert Stern, Norman Parkinson, Richard Avendon, and Ronald Traeger, to name but a few.

Last year, the National Gallery in London exhibited TWIGGY: A LIFE IN PHOTOGRAPHS in honor of Twiggy, or Lesley Hornby’s, 60th Birthday.

You can purchase the book from the exhibit on Amazon.

Happy Birthday <3

I hope to someday meet Katie Ermilio. I absolutely love her designs! I fell in love with her aesthetic after simply seeing a small spread on her on Rue Magazine.

She certainly does a great job with making the old new again and I love her experimentation with bold colors and shapes. Katie was kind enough to send me her Spring lookbook and I can’t wait to see more!

The best part? Her designs are fun and unique, yet incredibly wearable! They take chances without risking the wearer feeling the slightest bit uncomfortable or self-conscious. Instead, they are most-assuredly clothes with confidence and a sophisticated sass.

how chic is THIS for spring?

I love the cut of this dress!

This is one of my absolute favorite pieces. I’m loving the tiering! Wouldn’t this be an absolutely gorgeous bridesmaid dress? I’m envisioning it with a big bunch of fresh white peonies. Chic.

With exquisite cuts, luxurious fabrics, and such a fine attention to detail- I am positive we can expect great things from this line. After all, what would you expect from the granddaughter of Princess Grace Kelly’s personal clothier?

Yes, Katie Ermilio is certainly on the rise.

I am so excited for next week’s party honoring the One Kings Lane Tastemaker Tag Sale for Ceylon et Cie here in Dallas! I was given a preview of some of the gorgeous pieces that will be included in the chic sale and I am so excited to share them with you. Even if you aren’t in Dallas, please check out the Ceylon et Cie website, they have some lovely things!

Aren’t these prints just great? Truly, I don’t even know which pair of chairs I would choose! Michelle Nussbaumer’s Ceylon et Cie Tag Sale will be live on One Kings Lane this Saturday - 10am CT. Please be sure to set your alarm!

My friend Holly was over just the other week to see my new place and suggested I look at different options for coffee tables. I love the one I have now, but it is a bit smaller than it should be in my new family room. I think I will move it to my dressing room/office when I figure out exactly what I want to do about that space. I love this round option. It’s very clean, glamorous, and certainly has enough space on top for my ever-growing pile of magazine subscriptions.

These chairs would look fantastic with my new antique Baker kitchen table I found last weekend at Marburger Farms in Round Top, Texas. The intricately carved wooden legs of the table (French style!) were refinished in the most beautiful gray and these chairs would be a perfect complement to the piece. Hmmm…..

Pink Pink Pink - wouldn’t these be just perfect for a (my) dressing room? I love the classic shape of the chair jazzed up with such a fun print and color. And, of course, they’d look great with soft gray painted walls and the perfect fuzzy faux lambswool rug I’m forever scouring the web for. This sale looks like it is going to be amazing and I certainly can’t wait for the party next week which benefits the Dallas Contemporary. Cheers! ;)
Oscar de la Renta Jeweled Buckle Satin Sandal at Neiman Marcus
What I’m loving now: SHOES WITH BOWS. This fall, I found my dream shoe. The shoe that has inspired this entire post.
This is a shoe I would jump oceans for (or try). It’s timeless, elegant, feminine, and eternally chic. TRULY. I adore the bow on the back. Admit it, isn’t it just Audrey Hepburn gone de la Renta? I check Neiman Marcus’ website daily and just gaze at it wistfully. I really hope they run out of my size soon so I have an excuse as to why they can’t adorn my feet. Stunning.

Charlotte Olympia - Minerva Laser-Cut Suede Pumps
I did a post on Charlotte Olympia this past summer and of COURSE she (Charlotte Dellal) was in American VOGUE two months later. I have the eye, what can I say? These pumps, or booties, are just darling. They’d be adorable with tights and a mini this fall. The bows add a touch of glamour and the shoes on their own hold such an elegant shape with those slim heels.

Bow-Embellished Leather and Lace Pumps from Valentino
This pair is pretty much a classic Valentino nothing-out-of-the-ordinary type of shoe. But, I do love the texture. I think leather and lace is a really interesting combination and there is certainly a lot of it around this fall. I personally prefer lace over leather, but I think the latter adds a touch of modernity and grounds the fabric so it doesn’t feel so French boudoir. Leather and lace is very “now” feeling and I’d certainly like to see more of it. I think it could make for an interesting bedspread and pillow set.

Prada - Lace-Up Bow Slingbacks
I adore these booties from Prada and am in LOVE with the fact that they are light gray. I think it is wonderful that light gray is being dubbed the new neutral and I hope it stays that way for some time. These are so chic and I’d love to wear them with a pair of black lace tights from Donna Karan or polka dot tights from J.Crew.

Crystal Bow Ballerina Flats from Lanvin
These flats are so cute. They’d be a perfect pair of shoes to wear to work and make that business attire a little more glam. They look so comfortable too! They are certainly classic with a twist. Gorgeous.

Miu Miu Peep-Toe Bow Spectator Pumps
This shoe is simply smart looking. I love this twist on classic spectator pumps. It’s so girly and sophisticated at the same time. I think the color is very pretty and most assuredly a neutral that would go with anything! Noone would have the nerve to mess with a woman wearing these shoes.

Bookshelf glamour - today I read a lovely article by Rita Konig who is now contributing to the Wall Street Journal’s Saturday edition. She did a beautiful piece on how to make an office more chic and yes, less “office-y”. I noticed the desk above right in front of the bookshelves, part of the Ralph Lauren Fall 2010 Collection photo spread.

Mary McDonald
Johnny Miller for The Wall Street Journal
I fell in love with the spread on Malene Birger’s book Life and Work on Habitually Chic. Definitely take a glance at her entire post (I love the palette), but the living room definitely stood out to me. The placement of the artwork definitely follows the advice of Rita Konig’s recent article in the Wall Street Journal when it comes to making an office both comfortable and chic.

love love LOVE this room and its feel… Malene Birger on Habitually Chic
With books, great artwork, beautiful frames, sleek desks, and a comfortable setting and palette - you will assuredly create a comfortable AND chic workplace.
