Louis Vuitton Bunny Ears by Tanya Ling, 2010

I loved coming across this online fashion illustration gallery the other day on the British Vogue website. Fashion illustration merges two of my favorite things: fashion and art.  Not to say that fashion isn’t an art in its own right, but there is something truly magical about fashion illustration and with fashion bloggers, street style photographers, and photo shoots – life is more and more “in the moment” and I don’t feel we ever get to see quite enough of this type of work.

Luckily, British Vogue has launched a Fashion Illustration gallery on their site. They wrote: “Before fashion photography, illustrators were integral to the industry – their work featured throughout the best magazines. Today, fashion illustrations appeal to collectors as art in their own right.”

It’s true, I would thrilled beyond belief to own just one of the numbered prints below.  The gallery features work from: René Gruau, Tanya Ling, David Downton, Jason Brooks, Bobby Hillson, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, Francois Berthoud, Gladys Perint Palmer, and Hiroshi Tanabe. There is something so inherently timeless about fashion illustration – certainly moreso than a simple runway photograph.

I’ve included a few of my favorites below from the gallery.  All available prints may be purchased – shop the full collection here.
