“Beautiful paper is for me the top of luxury.  I am a paper freak.  It’s a physical passion.  I cannot live without paper.  Touching perfect paper has something sensuous about it.” – Karl Lagerfeld

A fragrance for booklovers from Karl Lagerfeld?  Yes, please!  The newest addition to my current must-have list: Paper Passion.  Paper Passion was inspired by German publisher Gerhard Steidl’s comments that his favorite scent is “a freshly printed book.”  Karl Lagerfeld has teamed up with Wallpaper magazine to launch Paper Passion – a fragrance set to capture that particular scent.

Steidl worked with avant-garde perfumer Geza Schoen to develop the scent. The end result is a scent created with just 4-5 ingredients.  These ingredients include a variety of woody components to mimic the dryness of paper.

Chanel‘s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, developed the packaging and the name Paper Passion.  As far as packaging, Lagerfeld immediately visualized and designed a real book with the fragrance placed in a hidden cutout space right in the center.

The front pages of the book are filled with short essays about paper by Lagerfeld, German author and artist Günter Grass, Wallpaper‘s editor in chief Tony Chambers, and Steidl.

Paper Passion is sold online and in select concept stores, bookshops and fragrance shop around the globe for $98.
