whimsy

Today called for an exceptionally green post.  I couldn’t think of any better place than the Seaside Neighborhood School‘s very own student garden in Seaside, Florida. I have certainly watched this garden grow over the past few years and loved the newly installed tile kitchen and grill (especially the Emeril was here tile).

The students at the Seaside Neighborhood School take gardening classes and learn how to grow organic vegetables, herbs, and more. I was fascinated by the Aquaponics- something I didn’t know much about.  In this case, the Aquaponics system is able to sustain the live fish below, while growing plants in the water at the same time through a mutually beneficial relationship.  In fish tanks, pollutants accumulate in the water which increases toxicity to the organisms inside.  Thus, the plants filter the water and return cleansed water back to the organisms- while the plans can use the gas and other byproducts of the fish for growth.

On a recent trip, chef Emeril prepared meals for students using their very own vegetables they’d grown in their school garden.  If that’s not adorable – I’m not sure what is!

I absolutely love visiting this garden on each and every trip!
