The Erickson Beamon spring 2013 presentation last week during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week confirmed my lifelong love of fashion for its theatrics and fantasy. Fashion has the ability to instantly transport us to another time or place and such was the case with the most recent Erickson Beamon presentation at Lincoln Center. I have this book from Assouline called Gypset Style and I was instantly reminded of it the moment I stepped into the presentation – from the fantastical sounds to the colorful slow movement in front of me.
Models (which included usual “front row” Erickson Beamon guests) were seated on construction scaffolding in the center of the room and other models were transported around the scaffolding on dollies by handsome butlers wearing tuxedos and donning Chuck Taylors. Mandie Erickson, of Seventh House PR, explained the presentation was inspired by the 1966 fashion film by William Klein: “Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?”

The models wore stunning other-worldly and even galactic looking pieces from the Erickson Beamon spring 2013 collection as well as Karen Erickson and Vicky Beamon‘s recently expanded line of clothing (their second collection): knit, roped, and woven body-conscious dresses, tops, and skirts and long silk lingerie-like gowns with lace details. WWD wrote, “Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon’s clothing line exuded the same hand crafted, one-of-a-kind feeling as their jewelry with an array of hand-dyed bright bias-cut slipgowns, handwoven dresses and plenty of bead and chain details.”
When it came to the clothing- the standout colors were certainly magenta, blue, and again – a gorgeous shade of lilac sprinkled throughout the presentation. The UFO 2012 Collective played mystic music live on crystal “singing bowls”- throughout the presentation.
The models wore their hair down – wavy and bohemian or in long messy braids. The makeup was all about the eyes with nude lips and double winged dramatic cat eyes. Guests enjoyed adult snow cones crafted from shaving down a block of ice during the presentation. One of the dresses is a must for my 2013 wardrobe – love.
